Pitso Mosimane talks down Chippa United's possession game

Sundowns will play against Bidvest Wits in the MTN8 final on 1 October at Mbombela Stadium after Sibusiso Vilakazi slipped the ball to Laffor to finish on the counter-attack in their semi-final, second leg against Chippa.

Mosimane said his team is wise enough to know that fighting on so many fronts requires winning at any cost and in any way to survive.

“What a game hey, what a good team Chippa is hey, they can put four number tens in front of your back four and play good inter-passing,” Mosimane said on SuperSport.

“We’ve been on the docks [in the dog box?] the whole week from the media, from everybody anywhere, that ball possession, you know those stories, but football is about goals, if you want to go to the final you have to score a goal.

“As much as they [Chippa] are dominant on the ball, I don’t know if they were dominant tonight, but you need to score the goal to go to the final.

“And we are used to this space, of semi-finals, games on the edge, big games, we’ve got the experience for these games. It’s not about playing too nice and showing off, it’s about getting to the final, we had to do the business.

“Another one on Saturday [against Zesco United in the CAF Champions League] so a luta continua [the struggle continues], against all odds.”

Mosimane took one last opportunity in front of the microphone to stress that it’s all about results at this stage for his team.

“You know what .. we are in the final. Let the talk stop hey, too much … ball possession, all these stories, we are in the final,” he added, chest pumped out.

“We are Mamelodi Sundowns, you come here to Pretoria, we’ll get a goal here if you’re not careful. What a nice snowball at the end.”
