Chiefs are reaping the fruits of reuniting the pair that played a pivotal part in The Brazilians’ success in the 2015/16 domestic campaign as well as the 2016 CAF Champions League.
Billiat arrived at Naturena in July, joining Castro who arrived six months prior, and the two forwards have each already contributed three goals and two assists in their seven games together.
Mosimane, whose side have failed to score in their last four matches in all competitions, has since admitted envy of the way the two have rekindled their combination formed at Chloorkop.
“It’s obvious, I am jealous when I see them combining well and scoring goals. I’m a human being, so why not,” said Mosimane.
“That’s a cut and paste story there. I’ve worked hard on that combination, I think three or four years, and all that’s coming is exactly what used to happen before [at Sundowns].
“The only thing left is Keagan [Dolly] on the left, and then it’s a complete ‘CBD’. But the two of them up front used to combine well and that’s when we scored 53 goals for 71 points.
“We won the Telkom Knockout, CAF Champions League and Absa Premiership, it’s unbelievable. But reality is that you have to move on, isn’t it?”
‘Jingles’ quickly drew inspiration from teams such as Barcelona and Real Madrid, who have also had to rebuild following the parting of former key combinations, and assures he will soon recreate one that will work for Masandawana.
“It’s the way it is, you can never cry about Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole’s combination at Manchester United, it’s done. That’s the beauty of football, that everything comes to an end,” he added.
“So I have to start another combination. Yes, it’s not easy, you can see that I’m struggling a little bit to get it right. But, with time, I’ll get it right.
“What’s important is to create the chances, and we are creating the chances. But we have moved on from that, and I think it’s the same that Barcelona will tell you when they had Neymar, [Luis] Suarez and [Lionel] Messi – they were in the UEFA Champions League final.
“In fact, they were winning it, and they haven’t won it for the last three years. They haven’t seen the trophy for the last three years because that combination is not there, but they keep moving. Same with Real Madrid, it’s the same with us.
“It’s a challenge, yes. We don’t hide it. It’s there, you can see it. Give me time, I’ll find the combination. It’s not easy, but that’s my job as a coach it is to find that combination.”
