MTN8 match report SuperSport United v Kaizer Chiefs 26 August 2018

Clayton Daniels came close to opening the scoring for Matsatsantsa in the tenth minute with a header inside the box following a corner but his effort sailed over the bar.

The hosts were pressurising Amakhosi high, forcing them into errors in the first quarter of an hour but they were yet to capitalise.

However, Khama Billiat broke the deadlock for the Glamour Boys in the 19th minute with a close range strike into a gaping net after Dumisani Zuma set him up from his run on the left wing.

Chiefs' joy was short-lived as Bradley Grobler levelled matters for United in the 23rd minute after collecting a cross from Fagrie Lakay before drilling the ball into the far corner.

Dean Furman came close to making it 2-1 for Kaitano Tembo’s charges five minutes later with a powerful strike from 25 yards but his effort rattled the crossbar.

Grobler gave Matsatsantsa the lead seven minutes before the break with shot into the top corner after being given space in the centre of the box, 2-1.

Bhongolwethu Jayiya had a chance to equalise for the visitors three minutes before the break with a free-kick from just outside the box but his effort was not up to scratch and United took the 2-1 lead into the break.

Leonardo Castro brought Giovanni Solinas’ men back into the match barely a minute into the second stanza after he was sent through by Billiat, with the Colombian beating the on-rushing Ronwen Williams with a strike into the gaping net, 2-2.

Billiat should have restored the lead for the Glamour Boys seven minutes into the second stanza after collecting a diagonal through ball but he could not connect with the pass with the net open.

The pace of the match was somewhat went down after 65 minutes following a very fast hour or so of football, although Chiefs did see more of the ball.

Grobler almost got the third goal for Matsatsantsa and himself in the 76th minute with a half-volley at the back post but Amakhosi shot-stopper Itumeleng Khune made a great save.

Billiat tried to get the winner for Chiefs five minutes before time with a strike from range but Matsatsantsa goalkeeper Williams smothered his effort.

The pace of the match fizzled out in the closing stages with both sides showing tiredness, as the clash ended 2-2 as a result.
