MTN8 match report Maritzburg United v SuperSport United 09 September 2017

There was a good tempo in the encounter from the onset, with both clubs signalling their intentions to get goals.

However, it was SuperSport who took the lead in the 13th minute when Jeremy Brockie rose well to head home Aubrey Modiba's cross.

Fadlu Davids' charges managed to find themselves in a number of promising positions, but they were let down by their decision making in the final third.

However, SuperSport managed to bag another goal on the night as Brockie headed home at the far post, with Teboho Mokoena picking up the assist.

Andrea Fileccia had a great opportunity to reduce the deficit in the 55th minute but was adjudged to be offside while in a one-on-one situation with goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, following a through ball from Evans Rusike.

Davids' men were dominating possession going forward on the hour-mark as they were searching for a goal to get back into the game.

In the 71st minute Reneilwe Letsholonyane was taken off and Siyabonga Nhlapo came on in his place as Eric Tinkler was looking to shore up his defensive-midfield block.

The Team of Choice were then reduced to ten men in the 78th minute as debutant Yazid Atouba got his second booking for simulation inside the Matsatsantsa box.

The last five minutes of the contest were slow paced as the red card seemed to have taken all the fight out of the hosts, who needed three goals to overturn the tie.

Maritzburg: Mpandle, Fransman, Xulu, Weidlich (Kunene 82'), Makaringe, Rusike, Ndlovu, Shandu (Feliccia 46'), Maboe, Van Wyk (Atouba 46'), Mekoa.

SuperSport: Williams, Kekana, Gould, Daniels, Modiba, Phala, Mokoena, Furman, Letsholonyane (Nhlapo 73'), Brockie (Nkhatha 81'), Grobler (Myeni 68').
