Mamelodi Sundowns' Thapelo Morena excited for first final in MTN8 against Bidvest Wits

Morena moved from Bloemfontein Celtic – a club that reaches cup finals once in a blue moon – during the last transfer window after three years in the Siwelele first team, and just six weeks later he is already guaranteed of a medal.

Sundowns will be at Mbombela Stadium for a 17h00 date with Bidvest Wits tomorrow which will determine who is crowned the new champion of the MTN8.

“I am really happy because this is my first cup final ever in my professional career,” Morena tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“I also hope that this will also go on to become the first of many trophies that I will go on to win in my time here at Sundowns. When something is happening for the first time it feels different and that is the case with me.

“I cannot really explain how I am feeling ahead of this final because it is all new. The guys who have been here at the club for a while now have been telling us that they are welcoming us in a precious way by getting us to have a feel of two finals.

“They have told us that we shouldn’t worry at all because this is Mamelodi Sundowns and this is what players at the club live for, that good feeling of reaching cup finals and wanting to win them,” says Morena.

Morena has so far made two appearances for The Brazilians – starting against Maritzburg United in the league and then coming on as a substitute against Chippa United in the MTN8 semi-final first leg.

“Even if I don’t get to play in the final what counts is that the team must win. I will still be just as proud if the team wins. Look, I have always understood that in moving to Sundowns I will find quality players that are already doing a good job for the team and then have to learn from them as I wait for my chance,” he notes.
