Josef Zinnbauer playing for his job in Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs

German coach Josef Zinnbauer has the Soweto Derby on Saturday to save his job at Orlando Pirates.

Zinnbauer has got off to a poor start in the DStv Premiership by Pirates' standards after playing to consecutive draws with AmaZulu and Stellenbosch.

Despite beating Cape Town City 1-0 in the MTN8 quarter-finals, the Buccaneers' performances have not been convincing so far this season.

And judging by the supporters' reactions on social media, fans are starting to lose confidence in Zinnbauer's capability to steer the Sea Robbers to greater heights.

Pirates started the campaign with high hopes after making a number of high-profile signings including Thulani Hlatshwayo and Deon Hotto but 'JZ' is still struggling to come up with a consistent starting line-up despite having led pre-season training this year.

Surprisingly, Zinnbauer also dropped captain Happy Jele for two games and handed the captaincy to Hlatshwayo before recalling him for the league match against Stellies at Orlando Stadium last Saturday.

Zinnbauer's record does not look too bad on paper having taken charge of 21 matches so far with 11 wins and three defeats, but it is the seven draws that are the problem.

The German coach now has the two-legged MTN8 semi-finals against Kaizer Chiefs to prove his credentials and win back the confidence of the management and supporters.

It is an open secret that you can lose any game as a coach at both Pirates and Chiefs but the Soweto Derby holds major significance to both clubs' fans and can decide one's eventual fate.

Now the ball is in Zinnbauer's court to win the confidence of the Bucs faithful not only by the result but also a good performance against Amakhosi at Orlando Stadium on Saturday (15h00).
