Their first meeting as head coaches came back in February, 2002, with the pair leading opposing ends in 19 games through the years with game number 20 now set to be their first ever cup final contest at Mbombela Stadium (17h00).
Sitting on one end will be one Hunt in his Wits tracksuit, while Mosimane – also in a tracksuit – will be feeling confident with his Sundowns team on the other bench.
Through the 19 games that have set out the two as opposing head coaches Hunt has won eight, lost five with the other six ending in draws.
Mosimane will, however, be inspired by the fact that he has won the last two matches that have set him against Hunt and was also triumphant in the only cup game that they have contested through those 19 games.
That knockout game was a 2005 SAA Supa8 quarter-final that had the Mosimane-coached SuperSport United finishing 3-1 victors over Hunt’s Moroka Swallows.
There is absolutely no doubt that Hunt and Mosimane stand out as the best coaches in the league right now which is why there is also a stirring touchline rivalry between them.
Interestingly, the two were born the same year in 1964 and so had contests from their playing days – Hunt was a roving right-back while Mosimane was a left-footed forward.
Four months older, Hunt started off with his coaching career in the PSL first as far back as 1998 with Seven Stars with Mosimane then getting his break three years later at SuperSport after having worked as a chief scout and assistant.
The first meeting between the two was with Hunt at Black Leopards and Mosimane with Matsatsantsa with that game ending 1-1 in February, 2002, just months after the latter had taken over from Bruce Grobbelaar.
When Mosimane left his job to be involved with the senior national team in 2007 it was Hunt who succeeded him at SuperSport going on to win three league titles.
Upon his return to club football during the 2012-13 season Mosimane found Hunt still at SuperSport before he then moved to his current employers Wits.
