City advanced to the MTN8 final afer defeating Wits 2-1 in the second leg on Sunday afternoon.
McCarthy claims they planned for the Clever Boys' long-ball game when they introduced Eleazar Rodgers in the second half.
"Three games three wins, I know I'm far from a thousand games as a manager but I'm not doing too bad hey," McCarthy told SuperSport TV.
"I'm delighted for the team. I'm delighted for the Cape Town City fans. I'm delighted for the players you know, because they're the ones who are putting the work in every single day. The coaches, we work up to a certain degree but once they cross that line it's all up to them. They fought for it so the victory goes to them.
"We planned for when they were going to play direct long balls to Rodgers, with flicks on second balls. First half we were a little bit disoriented because Gavin Hunt changed his team completely. They didn't play to what we expected them to do. After we got back into the game and they changed it to Rodgers and [Daine] Klate they played right into our hands because we knew how to cancel them out, hit them on a counter and that's exactly what happened.
"I'm delighted for 'Major' [Lehohonolo Majoro] for getting his goal. It's nice to see when it pays off."
