Chiefs-linked coach surfaces at PSL club

Five months after parting company with Sekhukhune United, Brandon Truter has landed a new gig after being announced by a Motsepe Foundation Championship club as an addition to their technical team.

The Cape Town-born mentor left Babina Noko in November 2023 after a poor run of results, although to his credit, he had taken the team to the final of the Nedbank Cup in the prior campaign, losing 2-1 to Orlando Pirates in the final. He also led the side to CAF Confederation Cup football, where they bowed out in the group stage while under the guidance of Lehlohonolo Seema.

With the club set for African club football yet again next season, judging by their current standing on the DStv Premiership log table, the coach popularly known as "Brakkies" has swiftly moved on.

"Upington City Football Club is thrilled to announce the latest addition to our club, Brendon Truter, who joins our technical team with immediate effect. This strategic move is part of our ongoing effort to strengthen our team dynamics and harness innovative strategies for the upcoming seasons. Brendon Truter comes to us with a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in technical roles within football. His expertise and passion for the game are expected to bring fresh perspectives and invigorate our technical strategies," read the second-tier side's statement, in part.

The statement is vague on whether he joins as head coach, but did confirm that their technical team will remain unchanged.

"We believe Brendon's inclusion will complement the existing framework, fostering an environment ripe for achieving remarkable success. Our club is committed to excellence and innovation on and off the field, and we are confident that Brendon will be instrumental in helping us realize our goals. We extend a warm welcome to Brendon Truter and look forward to the unique contributions he will bring to our team. Together, we are poised to embark on an exciting journey filled with promising opportunities and achievements," added the statement.

Notorious for being a players' coach, Truter has, in the recent past, been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, but is now tasked with helping the Motsepe Foundation Championship rookies to a play-offs spot as they sit in ninth place after 24 games played.
