Orbit College lose top spot to AmaTuks

Orbit College 0-1 Casric Stars

Orbit College surrendered top spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after suffering a 1-0 loss to Casric Stars at the Olympia Park Stadium on Sunday.

The loss demotes the promotion-chasing side two places from the summit and are now third on the table, as Casric record their first win of the year.

With no goals at halftime, the winner came late on courtesy of a certain Tlotlo Leepile which dampened the home side's spirit and their quest to obtain the top.

Marumo Gallants FC 0-2 Magesi FC

Magesi FC continued their strong start to the year with a 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants FC and jumped into second spot on the table.

Former Maritzburg United man Deolin Mekoa came off the bench in the first half to give the visitors the lead and at the same time opened his account for the club.

The men of Clinton Larsen weren't done and completed the victory at the death when Wonderboy Makhubu executed from the penalty spot following a coming-together in the area.

University of Pretoria 2-1 Upington City

University of Pretoria moved back to the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table courtesy of a hard-fought 2-1 win over Upington City on Friday.

It was a positive opening for the host when Camagu Mdevulana made the breakthrough, but Bafana Ba Gucci bounced back and entered the break level courtesy of veteran Vuyisile Ntombayithethi.

AmaTuks did have the final say though as a foul in the area saw a penalty awarded to them and the free-scoring Samuel Julies did the honours to give them all the points.

NB La Masia 0-0 JDR Stars

NB La Masia and JDR Stars' winless start to the year continued after the two couldn't be separated following a goalless draw in Vanderbiljpark.

Both teams endured losses on the return to action following the Africa Cup of Nations enforced recess, with La Masia succumbing to AmaTuks before JDR fell prey to Magesi FC.

Black Leopards 3-1 Platinum City Rovers

Black Leopards surged back into the top-half in the Motsepe Foundation Championship following last weekend's disappointment and thumped Platinum City Rovers 3-1 on Saturday.

A certain Sedzani Mudau was the star of the show as he bagged the net no fewer than three times in the first half to give them the perfect cushion to victory.

Rovers did pull one back through Bonginkosi Dlamini but it didn't spring a turnaround as Lidoda Duvha ended with ten-men following Jean-Jaures Golly's dismissal in the closing exchanges.

Hungry Lions 0-1 Venda Football Academy

Hungry Lions were denied their first win of the year after going down 1-0 to the struggling and regelation-threatened Venda Football Academy.

Lions returned to action last weekend and were held to a 1-1 draw at Upington City, while Venda lost by a single margin to Marumo Gallants FC.

There were no goals in the first half, but the visitors were recharged thereafter and the winner followed through none other than Banele Gama and left the host with a tail between their legs.

Milford Stallions 0-0 Maritzburg United

Maritzburg United's run without a win stretched to four matches on the back of a stuttering goalless draw against Milford Stallions in the KwaZulu-Natal derby.

The draw leaves them in mid-table, as United's last win happened in December in the Nedbank Cup preliminary round, while Milford's recent triumph came against Black Leopards in the same month.

Baroka FC 2-1 Pretoria Callies

Baroka FC got back to winning ways and maintained their top-three ambitions following a 2-1 victory over Pretoria Callies at the Global Stadium.

The Romans secured the opener just before the half-hour mark, but Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele replied through new signing Tshediso Patjie who have just joined from Moroka Swallows.

Bakgaga continued with the momentum and had the winner early in the second half through Bheki Maliba, as the result denied Callies successive wins after their triumph over Black Leopards last weekend.
