Maritzburg part ways with ex-Bucs defender

Former Orlando Pirates defender Tshepo Gumede is job hunting again after parting ways with Maritzburg United.

Gumede joined Maritzburg at the beginning of the season from Marumo Gallants. The former Bucs defender was among the players at the Team of Choice who were given the option to take a salary cut during the club's desperate attempts to save their budget this season.

However, Gumede has opted to leave the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit after failing to agree on a new contract.

Tshepo Gumede has since been linked with a move to join Magesi FC according to sources close to the player.

"Gumede is no longer with Maritzburg United. The club offered him an option but did not agree to the salary cut. There is the possibility that might join Magesi FC Limpopo," said the source.

Maritzburg United are currently struggling in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after only collecting 21 points so far in the league this season.

The Team of Choice drew 3-3 against Castric Stars in the league match played in Limpopo on Tuesday, and are set to travel to Princess Magogo stadium to face Milford FC in their next league match on Saturday.
