Maritzburg lose ground on Championship leaders

Marumo Gallants FC 1-1 Baroka FC

Baroka FC left it late to hold Marumo Gallants FC to a draw in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Friday.

Having crushed Black Leopards 4-0 last Sunday, Lidoda Duvha were keen to claim back-to-back wins but were behind very early from a scorcher by Ndivhuwo Ravhuhali.

The boys of Pitso Dladla were reduced to ten players late in the second half after Marvin Sikhosana saw red for a late challenge on Kabelo Kgosietsile.

Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele leaned towards defeat as the clock ticked but were rescued at the death through Tshepho Mashiloane.

Maritzburg United 0-1 JDR Stars

Maritzburg United lost a bit of ground at the top of the Championship standings and languish fourth after going down 1-0 to JDR Stars.

Prince Nxumalo struck the winner in the second period to leave the Team of Choice empty handed.

The Hammerboys have now leapfrogged the Team of Choice to third spot as well-travelled and experienced forward.

Orbit College 0-1 Venda Football Academy

Orbit College failed to stretch their lead at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship following a shock 1-0 loss to Venda Football Academy on Saturday.

The win is a huge boost for Venda in their plight to move away from the bottom-two as Rotondwa Mutsivhuli bagged the decisive strike in the first half to separate the sides.

Despite the loss, Orbit remain on top of the table though with their lead reduced to just three points off second-place Hungry Lions.

Black Leopards 2-1 Milford Stallions

Black Leopards got back to winning ways to move one spot up from 13th to 12th on the table after edging Milford Stallions 2-1 in Thohoyandou.

Lidoda Duvha and Milford were goalless at the break before the host opened the deadlock in the second stanza to ultimately ended up getting the win.

With Milford getting on board too, it wasn't enough to salvage something from the clash as Lidoda Duvha ended up redeemed themselves from last weekend's 4-0 drubbing by Baroka FC.

Upington City 2-0 Magesi FC

Upington City got their second win of the season to move away from the bottom-half all through a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Magesi FC.

Clinton Larsen's men have now gone three matches without a win under their belt and still hold a position in the top-half bracket amidst the barren run.

Goals in the first half from Thabang Mokwena and former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Keletso Makgalwa did the job to see off the visitors from Limpopo.

Platinum City Rovers 1-1 NB La Masia

NB La Masia missed the chance to make it two wins from two matches under new man Daine Klate following a 1-1 draw against bottom-two outfit Platinum City Rovers.

Klate had a winning start on debut last weekend against Casric Stars, however the struggling Rovers made life difficult this time around and got a point to leave them in seventh spot.

Hungry Lions 1-1 Pretoria Callies

Hungry Lions regained second spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship through a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the winless Pretoria Callies on Sunday.

There were no goals in the first spell before the Romans turned up revived in the second stanza to make the breakthrough, but Tlotlego Pitso bailed out the host.

With Lions in second spot on the table, it's worrying times for the Romas who are rock bottom and have just seven points from nine matches played.

University of Pretoria 0-1 Casric Stars

Casric Stars got back on the winning path after overcoming the University of Pretoria 1-0 and moved into tenth spot on the table.

After no goals came in the first half, the visiting team rallied and netted the winner in the closing exchanges courtesy of Kaizer Chiefs' development graduate Lebogang Lesako.
