Championship leaders hand Klate first defeat

NB La Masia 1-2 Orbit College

Orbit College returned to winning ways to remain at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table following a 2-1 victory over NB La Masia at the Isak Steyl Stadium on Tuesday.

The promoted team were stunned over the weekend at the hands of Venda Football Academy, and another defeat looked on the cards after Fuad Johnson had put La Masia ahead at the break.

However, Orbit pulled up a response following the interval with two efforts to get over the line and hand La Masia coach Daine Klate his defeat since taking the reins.

JDR Stars 3-1 Platinum City Rovers

JDR Stars continued to sit in the third-top three to keep their top-two ambitions alive with a 3-1 victory over the team languishing in the bottom-two Platinum City Rovers.

Veteran striker Prince Nxumalo continued his rich vein of form when he opened the deadlock on 24 minutes before Ziba added a second after three minutes.

City Rovers showed a life later on in the second half and pulled one back where a penalty led Zwane to tuck away, but Nxumalo made the points safe in the latter stages with his second of the day.

Baroka FC 3-2 Milford Stallions

Baroka FC got back to winning ways to maintain their steady rise up the table and recorded an entertaining 3-2 victory over Milford Stallions.

Dan Malesela's boys raced into a two-goal lead in the first half courtesy of Lehlogonolo Nonyane and the exciting Kabelo Kgositsele, but Milford levelled after halftime and threatened a draw.

Nonetheless, Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele had the final say and snatched the winner in the closing minutes through Siyabonga Mthombeni.

Magesi FC 2-0 Marumo Gallants

Magesi FC snapped a three-match winless run with a 2-0 victory over Marumo Gallants FC to cement their top-half position.

The host were buoyant against Marumo, who were relegated from the DStv Premiership last season, and were ahead at halftime through none other than Wonderboy Makhubo.

Gallants continued to chase shadows and before anything were cut open again as the home team ensured all the points when Motsie Matima bundled in their second.

Black Leopards 1-0 Maritzburg United

Black Leopards made it two wins in a row to close-in on the top eight following a 1-0 victory over Maritzburg United at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

It's a second straight loss for the Team of Choice in the wake of Friday's set-back against JDR Stars in Pietermaritzburg, as Lidoda Duvha grabbed the winner in the first half to get the maximum points.

Venda Football Academy 0-2 Hungry Lions

Hungry Lions remained second in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and tied on points with JDR Stars following a 2-0 win over Venda Football Academy on Wednesday.

It was a fast start for the Di Tau who wasted no time and raced into the lead early on through Raymond Daniels before Michael Khanyi added a second minutes apart.

Venda didn't show a response thereafter nor did the visitors extend their cushion and thus it finished 2-0 to the Kimberley-based outfit.

Casric Stars 2-0 Pretoria Callies

Pretoria Callies continued to prop up the Championship table and maintain a winless streak after going down 2-0 to Casric Stars at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

Casric were ahead after just two minutes in and managed to take the advantage into halftime as the Romans didn't level it up.

The host came out for the second period in control and duly bagged a second when Thato Makua found the net in additional time.

Upington City 2-1 University of Pretoria

University of Pretoria dropped out of the top-half on the table as late drama saw Upington City pull a smash-and-grab to secure a 2-1 win.

AmaTuks were well on course for the three points after Samuel Julies had given them lead in the last ten minutes, but Bonginkosi Makume equalised in added time.

With a draw on the cards, the host grabbed the winner right with virtually the last kick of the game through Vuyisile Ntombiyathethi and left AmaTuks empty handed.
