JUST IN | Another Maritzburg United star joins rivals

Sekhukhune United has announced the signing of former Maritzburg United goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner.

The 25-year-old joins Babina Noko on a three-year-deal and is latest in a string of departures from Maritzburg United following the club's relegation to the Motsepe Foundations Championship.

For Sekhukhune, the signing is part of Brandon Truter's bid to beef-up his squad for after an impressive campaign that saw his side qualify to play continental football next season.

Club Announcement With preparations for the new season in full swing, Sekhukhune United Football Club are delighted to announce the latest addition to strengthen the team with the signing of Goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner from Maritzburg United FC on a 3-year deal. 

Leaner (25) from Cape Town started his football career with Ajax Cape Town Youth Team (Development Team) in 2014 when he was 16 years old and later got promoted to the senior team in 2019 where he spent two seasons with The Urban Warriors.

He then joined Maritzburg United in August 2021 where he made 16 appearances with six (6) clean sheets in the 2022/23 DSTV Premiership campaign. He represented the country at under 20 level in 2017 COSAFA Cup in Zambia and was also part of the University Sports South Africa Team (USSA) in Taipei and Italy.

Leaner said: "I am looking forward to the exciting DSTV Premiership League season with Babina Noko. I am going to work extremely hard to contribute to the success of the team while maintaining the good image of the Club".

He concluded by saying that it is a good challenge to join an excellent and strong team (Babina Noko) which makes him very happy. Sekhukhune United Football Club would like to welcome Leaner to the Babina Noko family.
