The Story
Cape Town City were relegated from the Betway Premiership on Wednesday after a 1–0 defeat to Orbit College in the promotion/relegation play-offs.
This marked the lowest point in the club’s history, as they had never previously been relegated from South Africa’s top flight.

While the Citizens' relegation represents a historically bitter moment, it was a landmark achievement for their opponents, Orbit College, who secured their first-ever promotion to the Premiership.
However, it didn’t take long for Stellies to add insult to CT City’s disappointment.
Reacting to the news on their official X page, Stellenbosch posted an image implying they are now the only club from the Mother City competing in the Betway Premiership.
The image — showing a road sign pointing only to Stellenbosch as a Cape Town destination — was captioned: "Guess it's all up to us now."
Clearly, there is no love lost between the two Western Cape rivals.
Notably, clubs today often engage in social media banter, further fuelling rivalries between opposing teams.
