KO Comments

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Gift Motupa is feeling the bite of his lack of game time at the club, as rumours circulate of a potential January departure.

Motupa last played back in February in the CAF Champions League, totaling just 107 minutes for the 2022/23 season, with fitness issues plaguing his time at Masandawana.

The 29-year-old isn't in Rulani Mokwena's plans despite having the option on his contract exercised earlier this year.

Clubs such as Cape Town Spurs and Richards Bay have been linked with Motupa in the past, who will hope to resurrect his career in the DStv Premiership by the new year.

Here's how the readers reacted to the "Motupa's deepening issues at Sundowns" story:

"Another case of 'career being killed' right there," says Danito 4 Life.

"At Sundowns you pull up your socks or find the exit door. Sorry Gift, competition is too high in the starting 11," says Cybock10.

"So is favouritism... but it's okay," replies Danito 4 Life.

"Solomons at Chiefs is not playing, Mr Kapinga at Pirates is not playing, but we should focus on Motupa," says samuelb.

"Add Happy CAF Champions League finalist Mashiane, youngster Samkelo Zwane, poor Makhaula and Vincent Pule to the list," replies truthngezana1.

"He can do better than Basomboli and Jasond at Chiefs," says thulamda.

"'He seeks an escape', sorry man, Chloor-Kop Maximum Prison is for real. Sirino is the latest to attest to that," says khosilannete0.

"Ey Sirinho has been chained right down to his legs, he ain't going nowhere," replies Danito 4 Life.

"It is not easy at Downs. Not everyone can make it there. You need to take care of yourself. Body weight is very important. I last saw him at the Peter Mokaba Stadium against Pirates. I disagreed with myself with his pace. Players need to take serious care of themselves," says lombosngoape.

"Do you share the same sentiment with Bongani Zungu? Or is he your coach's makhwapheni and an untouchable?" replies Danito 4 Life.

Read: Khan: Why Petersen should take the blame

Former assistant coach at Kaizer Chiefs Farouk Khan has weighed in one the debate surrounding the club's current number one, Brandon Petersen.

The 29-year-old has kept four clean sheets in the 11 matches he's played this season across all competitions, but the error-prone keeper has conceded 10 goals, with his most recent howler coming from a 2-1 loss to Golden Arrows on Saturday.

Khan admits Petersen is a good goalkeeper and has been been unfortunate with some of his mistakes but feels that he needs to take responsibility for his mistake against Arrows.

Khan also questioned Petersen's poor first touch and whether he and the defenders at Chiefs are the right profiles for the 'building from the back' tactic.

Here's how the readers reacted to the "Khan: Why Petersen should take the blame" story:

"Listening to Khan makes me so sad cause of the respect I have for him, as for that Petersen, I will keep saying Chiefs management must CRIMINALLY PROBE him and he must never be allowed to wear that jersey again, in fact he must be RELEASED from Chiefs with immediate effect!!" says tkmoamohe.

"Before we even bash Petersen, we must blame Cavin for selecting the erratic keeper when the others are there and not making these silly mistakes. Cavin must not play Petersen again. Khune, Bvuma and the younger keeper are all there to help the team.

"Also, the team must play to the strength of the players and not copy Pep's style when you have not even trained them to play in that way. Players can be trained to play well even when they are below average. Chiefs coaches must help the players to improve individually! They must read what coach Louis van Gaal did at Bayern!!," says khothakhosi.

"I don't agree with Farouk, although still respecting his opinion. Peterson is weak as a keeper, and he ALONE must take the blame for that goal. I don't see how Farouk tries to bring in abo Msimango, in trying to make Peterson look better.

"Petersen is just not a keeper of Chiefs' calibre and I wonder why the coaches are not trying out Bruce Bvuma," Danito 4 Life.

"You can't build from the back with cows, that's a crime," says Saavedra.

"Big no to you Mr. Khan, stop covering for Petersen. He's the one who makes wrong decisions. He always plays the ball to wrong players. Instead of playing to wide players, where there's no pressure, he decides to play in front of his goal post," says @mapuh.

"I for one think Kaizer Chiefs have a lot of quality this season. But the problem is with the goalkeeping department and the central defensive pairing. There is no synergy. They are pairing man-markers, not players comfortable on the ball and they're horrible in build-up play.

"Secondly, Petersen is costing the team with childish errors. He is also the problem. There must be a solution. Thirdly, the team cannot create goalscoring chances playing with only defensive midfielders. Why play three of them while having an abundance of ball players in the middle.

"Lastly, make use of developed young players from the academy," says mohalevictortebz.

"Bafo, it's Petersen who is not coming to the party, without having to be economical with the truth. The earlier combo of Msimango-Dithokwe was doing well, I don't know why Ntseki saw it fit to dismantle it, same as the Maart-Castilo combo in the middle of the park, but Ntseki had his own ideas.

"Otherwise, I'm failing to understand why Du Preez, Msimango, Saile are being questioned for the failures of Petersen," replies Danito 4 Life.

"Chiefs fans, the problem is not on the coach, the problem starts at with the management and then goes all the way down to the technical coaching department and that confuses the players at Naturena," says Eau De Parfum.
