Heric: Chiefs still struggling with long balls

Former PSL coach Vladislav Heric has advised Kaizer Chiefs defenders to improve their defending of long balls if they want to continue their winning start tonight.

Amakhosi, who last week won their first league game of the 2025/2026 season, will tonight get a chance to make it six points in two games if they beat Polokwane City FC on Wednesday.

Rise and Shine, meanwhile, are still looking for their first win following the 1-1 draw against Magesi FC last week.

"Kaizer Chiefs from the 30th minute they had an extra player in their last game, and Stellenbosch hit the post twice," Heric tells KickOff.

"So I don't know whether Chiefs will keep the momentum or not because I never value first games. I never judge teams on their first games into the season because first games can be tricky, especially the ones where one of the teams had an extra player.

"To have an extra player for such a long time you should score four goals. That's my approach. I think it's better to wait until after five games. From what I have seen so far, it's going to be an exciting season.

"Against Polokwane, they need to guard against long balls Chiefs. Stellenbosch played long balls. In defensive line they need to be stronger Chiefs. As the season passes by they are gonna have more problems there.

"They have to deal with those long balls better. They should focus on that during the training sessions. It can be improved, and not necessarily by adding new players. It's very difficult to find quality central defenders, especially these days."
