Ahead of the 151st Soweto Derby, Zola Doda looks back at all the players who have played and starred for both Soweto rivals.
Legends such as Arthur Zwane, Jabu Mahlangu and Pollen Ndlanya will be watching tomorrow's match with divided hearts, as they have all played for both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
Collins Mbesuma is the only player from the current squads to have donned both black and white and gold and black – but a total 13 players in the PSL era have done so.

NB: Players who played both for Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates but did not play for either team during the PSL era are not on this list.
Arthur Zwane
Very few fans remember that Arthur Zwane once donned the black and white jersey, and the reason for that is because he only played 12 matches during the inaugural PSL season before he was loaned to Dynamos in the First Division.
A few months after making his professional debut for Jomo Cosmos in the Bob Save Super Bowl second round against Giyani Classic in 1993, Zwane suffered relegation with the team, but then helped them bounce back to the PSL in 1995.
After an impressive 1999/2000 season with Tembisa Classic '10 111' joined Kaizer Chiefs and that is when his career flourished.
But the deal was complicated as Orlando Pirates claimed that he was still their player, while Kaizer Chiefs claimed that Lesley Manyathela was their player. It was agreed that Zwane join Chiefs while Manyathela moved the opposite direction.
Zwane won three trophies with Amakhosi in 2001/02 during 'Operation vat Alles'.
Jimmy Tau
Jimmy Tau is one of the few players who excelled at both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
Although the only trophy he won with Pirates was the 2002/03 League title, he was one of the most influential players in the team.
After leading First Division side Maritzburg City to the semi-finals of the Bob Save Super Bowl in 2002, Tau and Mbulelo 'OJ' Mabizela were quickly snatched up by the Buccaneers.
That season the formed a solid partnership at the back with Lucky Lekgwathi and Abednigo Netshiozwi.
After only three seasons with the Buccaneers, Tau moved to Naturena in a much talked about move and his career continued to flourish.
At Kaizer Chiefs he won many trophies, including the 2006 Absa Cup; the 2006 SAA Supa 8, 2008 MTN8, and the Telkom Knockout twice – to mention just a few. After a long lay-off with injuries Tau retired – amid some controversy – in 2013.
Jabu (Pule) Mahlungu
Jeremiah Jabulani Mahlangu's best days were certainly with Kaizer Chiefs.
Coming through the club's development, Mahlangu – then using the surame Pule – was promoted in 1999/00 under Muhsin Ertugral and was an instant hit with the fans.
Shortly after scoring on debut against AmaZulu, Mahlangu made his Bafana Bafana debut in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho in Maseru as a substitute and scored in the same match.
With trophies coming in thick and fast, starting with the 2000 Bob Save Super Bowl where Kaizer Chiefs beat Sundowns 1-0 in the Final, Mahlangu had the world at his feet. A call-up to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney was followed by a 2002 Fifa World Cup under Jomo Sono.
But after winning his first League title in 2003/04 the tricky midfielder left for Austria and from there his career went on a downward spiral.
By the time he joined Orlando Pirates in 2005/06 season, Mahlangu was already past his best. At Pirates, he started 20 matches, made 10 substitute appearances and scored just two goals.
Stanton Fredericks
Like Jabu Mahlangu, Stanton Fredericks' best days were at Kaizer Chiefs.
With medals from the 2001 African Cup Winners' Cup, 2001 BP Top 8 Cup, 2003/04 PSL title, 2001 and 2003 Coca-Cola Cups – 'Stiga' is truly a Khosi legend.
When he joined Chiefs during 2001/02 his career at Wits was already reaching its peak and Chiefs afforded him a chance to win trophies.
But after returning from a two-year stint in Moscow, he joined Orlando Pirates during the 2006/07 season and played only six matches before joining SuperSport United midway through the season.
Pollen Ndlanya
Like Jimmy Tau, Pollen Ndlanya made an impact at both clubs. At Kaizer Chiefs Ndlanya won the League title in 1990 and the 1998 Rothmans Cup, while at Pirates he won the 2000/01 League title as well as the BP Top 8 in the same season.
After joining Kaizer Chiefs as a 20-year-old in 1990, 'Trompies' made his professional debut on 26 October 1991 against Pretoria City, with Chiefs winning the game 3-0.
With the club boasting an extensive striker line-up, Ndlanya left Chiefs at just 22, in 1992, to join Chatsworth Rangers.
However, he rejoined the club in 1995, after scoring 24 goals for Rangers.
After a brief spell with Turkish side Bursaspor he returned to Chiefs again in 1998.
He joined Pirates after a short stint with AmaZulu, and played an instrumetal role under Gordon Igesund.
Collins Mbesuma
Although his time at Pirates is not yet up, 'Ntofontofo's' spell at Chiefs would take some beating – although he had a slow start.
The Zambian international moved to Amakhosi midway through the 2003/04 season but, after making four appearances and scoring two goals, he spent the remainder of the season out with injury as Chiefs were crowned League champions.
The following season Mbesuma came into his own, scoring 35 goals – more goals than the entire Wits University team that season – and put himself in the record books.
He then had spells with Portsmouth in England, Maritino in Portugal, Bursaspor in Turkey, but has not been able to repeat his great season.
Currently Mbesuma is a bit-part player, with the on-form Lennox Bacela taking the main role.
Thabang Lebese
Although he had a brief spell with Orlando Pirates, Thabang Lebese did not really make an impact at the Buccaneers.
However, coming through the Amakhosi ranks with the likes of Thabo Mooki and Tsepo Molatedi, Lebese made a huge impact in his seven successful years with Kaizer Chiefs.
From 1993 to the time he joined Ria Stars in 2000, Lebese's Kaizer Chiefs were either collecting trophies, reaching finals or finishing second on the log and the player's contribution in the team was vital.
After collecting his last winners medal (Bob Save in 2000) he joined Ria Stars and quickly made an impact. 'Banda' joined Orlando Pirates won the League the same season.
Marcus Mphafudi
Although he played for both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at the twilight of his career, Marcus Mphafudi' great years were with the other Soweto giants – Moroka Swallows.
Phumlani Mkhize
While at African Wanderers, Phumlani Mkhize was rated higher than his teammates Siyabonga Nomvete and Sibusiso Zuma but sadly, he achieved a lot less than those two in his career.
Sizwe Motaung
Sizwe Motaung is one of the best right-backs ever to have played for Bafana Bafana.
After spending three years on the books of Jomo Cosmos, Motaung joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 1993 and from there his career peaked.
Spells with Spanish La Liga side Tenerife and Swiss side St Gallen followed. But upon his return in 1997, Motaung joined Amakhosi, and helped them win the 1997 Rothmans Cup – however, he had to endure public humiliation from his coach Paul Dolezar in the Final.
'Mona wa Sechaba' later moved to Orlando Pirates and then AmaZulu before hanging up his boots, although he never reached those heights again.
Gert Schalkwyk
Gert Schalkwyk's move to Orlando Pirates in 2009/10 was a surprise, as his career was already on a decline due to off the field problems.
When he joined Kaizer Chiefs they won the 2004/05 League title, and Schalkwyk was regarded as a rough diamond. However, when Ernst Middendorp took over, Schalkwyk's career went to the next level.
He was rewarded with Absa Cup and 2006 Supa 8 wins, but a loan spell to Bloemfontein Celtic in 2009 saw sparks of a downward spiral in his career.
Siyabonga Nomvete
'Bhele' Nomvete's combination with Phumlani Mkhize and Sibusiso Zuma caused havoc, but as soon as African Wanderers were relegated Kaizer Chiefs did not waste time in snatching up the quick striker.
After making his Chiefs debut against Bloemfontein Celtic he went on to become the darling of the fans and a club legend.
His exploits earned him the 2000 Bob Save Super Bowl, 1998 Rothmans Cup, 1999/00 PSL Player of the Season, 1999/00 Players' Player of the Year and 1999/00, 2000/01 KICK OFF Footballer of the Year.
Spells with three different clubs in Italy followed, before he joined Orlando Pirates midway through the 2005/06 season, where he scored only four goals in 14 matches.
His spell with the Buccaneers ended when he moved to Swedish side Aalborg.
The veteran striker is currently at Moroka Swallows, and was club top scorer in 2011/12.
Marc Batchelor
After beginning his career with Dynamos in 1990, Marc Batchelor joined Wits University in 1992 upon his return from the USA.
The two seasons he spent with Wits yielded 25 goals, and that's when Orlando Pirates came for his signature.
Even though the Buccaneers won the 1994 League title, 1995 African Champions Cup, 1996 BP Top 8 and 1996 African Super Cup while 'Batch' was there, his impact at the club was not great.
It was at Kaizer Chiefs, under Paul Dolezar, that he really enjoyed his football, playing alongside Mark Williams and Thembinkosi Biyela.
Dumisa Ngobe
Dumisa Ngobe came on as a second half substitute during the 1995 BP Top 8 Final, which Kaizer Chiefs lost 2-0 to Wits University.
But he was involved in the tug-of-war between the two teams, and later joined Orlando Pirates, where he achieved a great deal of success.
He made his Bafana Bafana debut on 14 September 1996 against Kenya in the Four Nations Cup tournament, scoring the only goal of the game.
>>Siyabonga Nkosi and Abia Nale played for Orlando Pirates reserves but not the first team and went on to play for Kaizer Chiefs.
>>Lesley Manyathela and Siphelele Mthembu were both subjects of a tug-of-war between the two clubs but both ended up at Orlando Pirates.
