My Muti Story: We mixed muti with holy water

In this edition of My Muti Story, we hear from former Kaizer Chiefs and Black Leopards striker David Zulu.

Zulu says at Leopards they believed in both muti and God at the same time.

"I was lucky most of the teams I played for didn't use muti," Zulu tells KickOff.

"The only team I remember using muti was Black Leopards, but even there it was during the time we were fighting relegation.

"I remember we were very desperate to survive relegation. So, we used both the muti and holy water.

"Though the chairman is a pastor, as you know God helps those who help themselves.

"They used to bathe us at Black Leopards. I remember the day we played Ajax Cape Town.

"It was a must-win. I think it's the very same season Santos got relegated.

"We went on to beat Ajax by four goals. Ajax was red hot those days, the game was played at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

"On the eve of the match, a huge trench was dug in some veld in Polokwane and that's where we buried Ajax.

"In that trench, our muti man from Eswatini put some stuff inside and burn it.

"All players were given some muti to throw into the fire, you had to say something and after that throw the muti into the fire.

"We went like 'Hey you Ajax! Tomorrow you are getting to hide and you will never catch me! You will never stop me!'

"Afterwards we went to a church where we steamed and made to drink a lot of warm water which we would vomit immediately.

"This took the whole day.

"And we went on to beat Ajax by four goals. And we survived relegation. The Ajax guys didn't know what hit them that day."
