'Appollis would get more playing time at Chiefs'

A former Kaizer Chiefs defender believes the club's current squad can turn things around in the second half of the season, though has called for a red-hot PSL star to be brought in as soon as yesterday.

Coming from the school of literal 'hard knocks' at Jomo Cosmos, Mokete Tsotetsi joined Chiefs back in 2007 and won a couple of trophies with the side, before departing some two years later.

Having followed closely the developments at Naturena, the now retired centre-back is confident Amakhosi have the quality players, just missing a beast up front who knows his way to goal.

"They create chances, as was evident on Sunday against [Golden] Arrows. Remember, our most influential player, Gaston Sirino, is out," notes the erstwhile tough tackler, speaking to KickOff.com.

"Bringing Oswin Appollis on board will enhance their offensive capabilities. Defensively, we have solid players, they just need time to gel through consistently playing together.

"Chiefs have quality players, but they are not performing at their best yet.

"Ranga Chivaviro is part of the squad, though he isn't quite at his peak. He needs another experienced striker to help ease the pressure on him," he adds.

Tsotetsi says Amakhosi management should have lured Appollis to their camp a long time ago as misfiring Chivaviro plays more like a target man.

"I appreciate that the players around him, such as [Wandile] Duba, [Mduduzi] Shabalala, and [Mfundo] Vilakazi, are contributing with goals. However, Chivaviro tends to get frustrated if he doesn't score.

"I know Chiefs will sign players, but I'm unsure about Appollis since all the Big Three teams are interested in him. Nevertheless, he would get more playing time at Chiefs."
