Chiefs pending DC case: From sell-out crowds to closed doors?

In addition to disappointing results, Kaizer Chiefs could have their large turnout at stadiums affected, with a supporters stadium ban one of the possibilities in their pending DC hearing.

Pre-empting a charge from the PSL DC, Chiefs, on Tuesday, issued an apology to all their "stakeholders, sponsors, the Premier Soccer League (PSL), the South African Football Association (SAFA) and loyal supporters" for the pitch invasion and throwing of missiles by their fans in Saturday's 4-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout quarter-finals.

The club condemned the incidents as "completely unacceptable" and said "the issue is societal that the football industry and communities must address collectively".

Whether the Soweto giants would accept responsibility or not, they won't be able avoid PSL DC charges, after the League's prosecutor Zola Majavu already delivered a verdict on Orlando Pirates' "spectator misbehaviour, arising from a missile throwing incident, wherein their spectators threw an assortment of objects directed at the match officials in their match against Magesi FC".

Majavu suggested that Pirates, "as a first offender", had a lenient sentence.

"Having listened to submissions regarding aggravation and mitigation of sanction and mindful of the fact that they pleaded guilty and they appeared as first offenders, the PSL DC ruled as follows -

"They were fined a monetary amount of R100, 000, of which half is suspended for a period of 12 months…," Majavu announced on Monday.

Given that Chiefs have already been charged and fined R150 000, with R50 000 suspended, this season after a missile-throwing incident last month following a 2-1 league loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, they could be facing a stadium ban..

This, after the PSL DC handed them a suspended stadium lockout in their second appearance to answer to charges of spectator misbehaviour last season, although their second charge carried two separate sanctions following two incidents that happened in the same week.
