Divine intervention for Chiefs star amid exit talk

Defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has addressed questions about his future at Kaizer Chiefs after being heavily linked with a walk towards the exit door at the beginning of the season.

With head coach Nasreddine Nabi ushering in a new era at the club, which included the arrivals of two new centre-backs in Rushwin Dortley and Inacio Miguel, Ditlhokwe's future had reportedly become uncertain.

So dire was the situation that he did not make the matchday squad for the opening five league matches of the campaign, raising further red flags over his place in the squad and where Nabi rates the Botswana international.

However, a series of defensive injuries to Bongani Sam, Bradley Cross and the unregistered Edmilson Dove prompted the Tunisian-Belgian coach to turn to Ditlhokwe, who made the substitutes bench for the first time during a 2-2 draw against Magesi FC at the end of October last year.

The former SuperSport United man has since made six consecutive appearances, although he has only played the full 90 minutes on just two occasions.

With the January transfer window now open, Chiefs are expected to make some changes and Ditlhokwe did little to put speculation around his future to bed when responding to questions by journalists at the club's media open day on Tuesday.

"Most of the time, I always tell people that it's all about God," Ditlhokwe responded when asked if he would still be wearing the famous Gold and Black colours by the end of the window.

"If it's God's will for me to be here, I will be, but if it's not God's will, then obviously I will not be here."

Amakhosi are also in somewhat of a dilemma as they have exceeded the number of foreign spots granted to a team by the league.

They had bypassed this by not registering Dove - who had suffered a serious injury anyhow.

However, with the Mozambican close to a return to action, the club may be tempted to use the January window to offload one foreign player.
