Khanye: Nabi's return will disadvantage Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes that the team will need to dig deep to overcome the in-form Orlando Pirates in Saturday's Soweto Derby.

Amakhosi will face their old rivals Pirates at FNB Stadium in what promises to be an exciting Betway Premiership clash.

Khanye feels that the pressure on the Chiefs players might have been somewhat alleviated if Nasreddine Nabi were still serving his suspension. Nabi has missed the club's last two fixtures due to a red card suspension.

"For me, Nabi not being on the bench was a blessing in disguise because of the pressure he was feeling," Khanye tells KickOff.

"Some coaches, when under pressure, tend to pass that stress onto the players. His absence meant less pressure on the Chiefs players.

"I would like to commend the Chiefs players for redeeming themselves by winning two consecutive games. It's not easy given the amount of pressure they were under.

"Compliments to Chiefs for sticking with those young players; some experienced players might not have handled the pressure they were facing.

"With Nabi returning on Saturday, I believe it may disadvantage the team, as he might put the Chiefs players under additional pressure," the former Amakhosi star added.

"I know Chiefs do not want to lose a derby, just like Pirates. Thanks to Jose Riveiro for his understanding of the local players. Today, Pirates are playing with their identity and culture, which is a positive factor because this game will be decided by the players.

"It's going to be an open game, with both teams seeking scoring opportunities. The derby separates boys from men.

"The Pirates players have an advantage since they are accustomed to being tested. I see Pirates winning this game 3-1.

"I'm expecting Relebohile Mofokeng to score his first derby goal, along with Tito Maswanganyi and Mabasa. Pirates currently have the best attack in the league."
