Miguel: ‘We have to be honest…’

Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has raised his authoritative voice in giving answers to what has been the definition of his first season at the club.

While winning the Nedbank Cup on Saturday could provide comforts of quenching the trophy thirsty, Miguel still insists this will make up for what has happened this season.

Chiefs have been so bad that what they are only guaranteed of is that they will not be in the relegation play-offs.

"We have to be honest with ourselves that it was a bad season," says Miguel, who has also made it known that he is fit to play in the final this week.

"I have to be honest with myself, I also had a bad season because I had a lot of goals to achieve with the club, but I didn’t make it.

"We are a young squad with a lot of mature players who understand that it is not only the coach (Nasreddine Nabi).

"We have to be honest in that the coach gives us the ideas, but we play, run, shoot, defend, so we cannot always blame the coach’s ideas.

"We have to be honest with ourselves in that what we have done this season was not enough and now we have a way to go.

"We have to be honest as players, we were not enough, and me Miguel I was not enough and that is where we can start and to improve, we have to be honest with ourselves," says Miguel.

"When I arrived, I was expecting that we could stay up in the table and not this position.

"We don’t deserve to stay in this position.

"Of course, the results dictate that we deserve, but with the quality that we have, we could have done better.

"There are a lot of aspects that we need to improve.

"I could have done better, and I know what I have to improve and I’m trying it.

"So, I have to be honest with myself and understand that if we win the cup, it is a big moment that I will enjoy and be happy about, but I don’t forget the bad results that we had this season.

"I will make sure that everybody knows that it has not been a good season for Kaizer Chiefs.

"It is not a good moment but rather a process and cannot focus on the bad results that we had.

"My focus is on what we can do in the future," says Miguel.
