Night & day: Chiefs' first 5 games vs other seasons

With the first block of five fixtures done and dusted, this website compares Kaizer Chiefs' impressive start compared to previous seasons, at the same stage.

Chiefs have made a remarkable improvement from last season, going into the FIFA break second on the log on goal difference, with four wins and one draw from five matches, whilst they are also yet to concede.

Having accumulated 13 points at this stage means the side has made just over a 100% improvement, statistically, compared to last term, where they were on seven points and lying fifth.

The first five encounter had produced exactly the same results for three consecutive campaigns, as they had collected a mere seven points also in 2022/23 and 2023/23 as well.

The start of the 2021/22 and 2020/21 campaigns after five games was even worse, as the Soweto giants had managed only five points comparatively.

In fact, it is quite interesting and shows the level of improvement that the last time they competed for the league title, in 2019/20, they had 10 points and were top of the log after five games.

The current start under Nasreddine Nabi is only bettered by that of Stuart Baxter in the 2014/15 season, where after five matches they had a perfect 15 points, with five wins from as many matches.

They won all their first eight matches to set the tone to eventually winning the league title.

It is history in the making, however, that Amakhosi have kept five consecutive clean sheets from the start of the season, a club record in the PSL era.

Chiefs will be back in Betway Premiership action when hosting Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium on 16 September.
