'Are they the right players?' - Khumalo questions Chiefs squad

Former Bafana Bafana defender Bongani Khumalo has questioned the quality of Kaizer Chiefs' squad following a draw against TS Galaxy.

The Soweto giants needed an added-time equaliser from Ranga Chivavairo to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy on Monday at Mbombela Stadium.

Former Orlando Pirates development product Samukele Kabini had drawn first blood at Chiefs with an opening goal in a caged first half.

Despite leaving it late to equalise, Chiefs had plenty of opportunities to score, including one in the first half where Ashley du Preez failed to hit the target after coming out one versus one against the Galaxy goalkeeper.

Reviewing the match on SuperSportTV's ExtraTime, Khumalo warned that the failure to convert chances is something that is far too common in the PSL.

"I think that's what foreign coaches will have to learn and learn quickly when they come to our league; it's the temperament of our players," Khumalo said.

"Unfortunately, this does occur in our league. This is not a new story that we are talking about, in terms of chances not being taken. It happens more often than you would think in our league.

"So that will happen but the question is, are you putting your team in a position where they can create a lot more than they can miss because that's what it is in the end."

As the January transfer window approaches, questions have been lingering over whether or not Chiefs need reinforcements ahead of the second half of the season.

For Khumalo, Chiefs' current squad has left much to be desired.

"Now, the conversation becomes uncomfortable because you have a coach who has set up a system that puts players in the right positions," Khumalo added.

"So now, the question, the players in that position, are they the right players? Now we talk about personnel.

"That is because in a conversation on a high level in terms of the coaching staff, the player involved, confidence-wise, and quality-wise, a lot of factors come into play.
