Chiefs legend: I'm glad Petersen broke my record, but...

Kaizer Chiefs legendary goalkeeper Joseph ‘Banks’ Setlhodi has commented on the side’s current number one, Brandon Petersen, breaking his record that stood for all of 47 years.

Petersen has now kept five consecutive clean sheets, a feat that was last achieved in 1977 by Setlhodi himself.

"It's a good thing that the record has been broken. It makes me happy to see that we still have achievers out there. This shows there is improvement in that department," says Setlhodi tells.

"It's special that my record has been broken by someone who started off very slow and weak. He can become a good goalkeeper if he starts believing that he is a Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper – then he will truly excel in that role. He must carry himself like a Kaizer Chiefs keeper should.

"No club has ever become successful without a good goalkeeper. I know at Chiefs they have told Petersen about my record.

"But for Petersen, he still has to prove himself. A Chiefs goalkeeper leads the team. He must marshal the squad effectively. He needs to guide the team in the right direction.

"Most importantly, he must show consistency. He has to demonstrate that he is not willing to concede goals."

Petersen’s good start to the campaign will be put to yet another test against the most in-form team in the league, Sekhukhune United, on 16 September at FNB Stadium.
