Khune is arguably one of the popular sporting figures in South African history due to his success with the countries most supported club.

Football draws viewerships larger than some of the biggest box office movies and due to its popularity, the games biggest stars attract a large number of fans who idolise the superstars of the sport.
And with social media allowing supporters to have closer access to their heroes, footballers like Khune leads the way in terms of interaction and showing the love to his devout followers.
Dwarfing his rivals
With 878 000 followers on social media application, the 31-year-old has more than double the amount of his nearest competitor for the crown as the most popular footballer in Mzansi.
His former teammate Siphiwe Tshabalala, with 437 000, holds second place. The duo spent more than a decade together at Chiefs and in the Bafana Bafana squad, whilst also representing the nation at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Five of the 10 players on the most-followed list either plays or represented the Glamour Boys in years gone by, while Orlando Pirates only have one representative.
