Siphiwe Tshabalala lands managerial role for Heritage Day Unity Soccer Day, SA Celebs vs Soccer Legends

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala has landed his first job as a manager.

'Shabba' will get to feel what it's like to be a team manager on Tuesday when a star-studded line-up of celebrities clash with soccer legends at the Nike Centre in Soweto at 09h00.

With a common goal of fighting against xenophobia in South Africa, local celebs and former football stars have organised a fun-filled Heritage Day Unity Soccer Day, which will be followed by some entertainment after the game.

Tshabalala will be the manager of the celebrity team, while TV personality Minnie Dlamini will be the coach.

"Ja no it's happening tomorrow bro," legends team striker Jerry Sikhosana tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"I think it's just to bring awareness to the whole of Africa, not only South Africa but Africa. You know besides the spate of violence and xenophobia, gender violence and the likes of femicide.

"We are just trying to show people as popularly known figures, we are role models to people so if we don't show them the unity then there is no need for us to be like complaining about what is happening. So basically, we are showing these people that we are united. We want Africa to be united.

"It's free entrance, bring your family, and it's generally special when a man brings his wife and comes with the kids."

Sikhosana explained why the likes of Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Stanton Fredericks are in the Celebs team.

"Ja remember we are so many, so we are trying to balance it so that it's not just a walkover, so we thought that the other guys can represent the people there [celebs] but obviously you know well-known people like Zodwa Wabantu and Somizi, Dineo Ranaka... all those people. The coach is Minnie Dlamini. On our side [the legends' coach is sports anchor] Mpho Letsholonyane.

"So I think we are trying to bring that awareness obviously for unity, and you could see in our legends we've got foreigners as well because of this xenophobia thing. So we want to show people that we are united, we are a South Africa that brings the whole of Africa together, and even the world needs to see... that [xenophobic attacks] might have happened you know but not all of us are behind that. We condone it.

"So this is the only way we can show people, especially around the world and the whole of Africa, that we united here in South Africa. On our side the head coach is Doctor Khumalo and on the other side it's TT the musician. So I think those are the people who are behind the whole idea."
