Following a 0-0 draw away in Madagascar, Matsatsantsa – who fielded a number of squad players such as Boalefa Pule, Teboho Mokoena and Fagrie Lakay – secured a 2-1 win in Pretoria thanks to a Jeremy Brockie penalty and Lakay strike in the first half to secure their passage in the competition.
Despite the positive result, SuperSport squandered a number of opportunities which left their coach unimpressed.
"We could have scored a lot of goals today,” he was quoted as saying after the game. “But I'm glad most of the players who haven’t played in a while due to injury got a run."
Baxter added that SuperSport will be releasing two of their youngsters to join the national Under-20 team ahead of this month’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
"We will release Mpoto and Mokoena to the U-20 international side,” he said. “Mokoena played very well today."
SuperSport will now face Al-Ahly Shendi of Sudan in the next round, with the first leg scheduled for the weekend of 10-12 March and the return leg scheduled for 17-19 March.
