The Buccaneers lost 3-1 to Egyptian giants Al-Ahly in the decider of Africa's premier club competition nearly two years ago.
Pirates have another shot at continental glory, as they prepare to host Tunisian side Etoile in the first leg of the Confederation Cup Final at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
“Firstly I need to remind them that it is not Pirates playing tomorrow but the whole of South Africa is,” Fredericks tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“If Pirates do well it directly impacts on the national team as well so I would like to encourage them to continue flying the flag.
“We need to go out there and avenge that loss to Al-Ahly and this is the opportunity to do so. Good luck to the boys tomorrow, we are all behind you Mabhakaniya.”
Fredericks played for Pirates in their 2006 CAF Champions League campaign.
