Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane envious of Orlando Pirates

The Buccaneers beat Al Ahly 4-3 in Egypt to win their semi-final clash 5-3 on aggregate and reach the decider against Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel.

Mosimane believes Eric Tinkler’s men were good value for their win over Al Ahly and has urged South African clubs to follow their lead.

“Orlando Pirates are really, really flying the flag high,” he says. “They beat Al Ahly – the team with 18 CAF titles and the team of the century. Really guys, credit to Orlando Pirates. Eric Tinkler has got it right and congratulations to him; all we are doing is to envy them.

“We wish them well and they are still showing that they are the biggest team in South Africa in terms of continental football.

“They fear nothing,” he continues. “They are fearless away and they are scoring the goals when they play away you know. They eliminated TP Mazembe [in 2013] and we can talk about Zamalek and Al Ahly, so they are showing that we need to copy the good things that they are doing.

“I think my team was anxious when we went to Mazembe [and lost] and I think we over respected them. And Pirates doesn’t respect anybody,” Mosimane adds.

Pirates have scored in all their 14 CAF Confederation Cup matches leading to the final making it a total of 28 goals in 14 matches since the first round clash against Uganda’s URA.
