Etoile, who eliminated Zamalek of Egypt at the same time as Pirates were dispensing with Al Ahly in the semifinals on October 4, were at newly promoted AS Kasserine and won with a third minute goal from their Brazilian striker Diogo da Silva.
It was only the third game of the new league season for Etoile, who were runners-up in the Tunisian championship last season. They have won two and lost one and now have fixtures to catch up.
Etoile’s success in the Confederation Cup has also seen players called up by national coach Henryk Kasperczak for CHAN-2016 qualifiers against Libya and Morocco next week. They include defender Hamdi Naguez and midfielder Mohamed Amine Ben Amor.
Etoile are scheduled to play four more league matches before they travel to Johannesburg for the first leg of the Confederation Cup Final at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, November 21.
The second leg of the Final is in Sousse on November 28.
