Mathlouthi, who is also Tunisia’s number one, sustained a calf injury in their 2-1 victory over Mauritania in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday and had to be replaced in the first half.
“He will undergo tests before the medical staff can make a decision on whether or not it’s possible for him to play in the final, but I am optimistic about his condition, that is why he has travelled with the team to Johannesburg,” club doctor Faycal Kachnaoui is quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, central defender Zied Boughattas and midfielder Hamza Lahmer have been declared fit for the game despite pulling out of Tunisia’s two qualifiers against Mauritania.
