Yanga SC: Why ex-PSL coach Zlatko Krmpotic was selected to succeed Luc Eymael

Yanga SC confirmed the shock appointment of former Polokwane City head coach Zlatko Krmpotic ahead of the 2020/21 Vodacom Premier League season.

From the moment Luc Eymael was sacked for his alleged racial tirade, Yanga have dominated headlines in African football, even since the furore around Belgian diminished as time went by.

Starting with controversial midfielder Bernard Morrison's arrest, to his transfer to Simba SC, which they still dispute, to being pictured with AS Vita boss Florent Ibenge before snapping him Senzo Mbatha from their city rivals.

Mbatha's appointment coincided with several high-profile signings, including Burkina Faso international Yacouba Sogne, which has brought real optimism for challenging for the league and perhaps a run in the CAF Champions League.

All that was left was the new head coach and highly-rated UEFA Pro License holding manager Cedric Kaze, formerly of Burundi national team was set to be unveiled for their famed 'Yanga Day'.

However, Krmpotic, who had an ill-fated spell in the PSL was confirmed as their next mentor on a one-year contract which has divided opinion given their clearly lofty ambitions.

The former TP Mazembe assistant was part of Patrice Carteron's 2015 CAF Champions League winning squad but has left a lot to be desired since departing, with Yanga now his sixth job in four years.

snl24.com/kickoff understands that Yanga made the decision after Kaze informed them of family circumstances that would prevent him from joining up with the next four weeks.

And with the new league campaign set to kick off next week the club's hierarchy decided to contact the only available coach shortlisted for the job that would be able to arrive immediately.

South African fitness coach Riedoh Berdien had been in charge of the first-team squad since Eymael's acrimonious exit last month.
