After finishing second in the Absa Premiership this past season, Amakhosi will be representing South Africa in the Champions League along with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mabedi says from now on the club should aim to win every competition they compete in to console their supporters.
"Eish my man, I wish I can give you that answer, it's something that you won't understand," the former Chiefs skipper tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"You can't explain because they have to win. But unfortunately they never win. And Sundowns did win, so that makes it different. Ya obviously it's important for the team to win after a long drought. You know it's very important to win whatever tournament they participate in. It's very important for a team like Chiefs to win you know.
"Remember our time when we won the Mandela Cup? What we did is just commitment. It's all about the dedication of the players, the commitment, and most importantly the passion. And it was a smaller squad, we had only about 20 players. And we played mostly without a reserve keeper because Rowan Fernandez came late and they couldn't register him.
"So when I say dedication I could see the way the players were putting in the effort. What I've noticed is here in South Africa these competitions of Africa they are not taking it seriously. You must remember when you are playing in Africa you meet different countries and with different environments.
"So you find what you have here you won't find it the other side. Only in South Africa the team that I respect... Sundowns I think they take very seriously. Other teams they can't handle it, they complain about food... you just need to go and do your job. I remember we were playing in Madagascar and the field was like a bush. Mentally you just need to be strong."
