The details of the rescheduled CAF Champions League fixture against Wydad Casablanca are still to be finalised, according to the latest from CAF, with Egypt set to be the neutral venue for the match.
CAF has since apologised to Amakhosi for the inconvenience and invited the club to claim for the financial losses incurred, with the club unable to shed any light yet on what course of action it will take.
Will the club claim for losses, and will they honour the rescheduled fixture against the Moroccan club?
"For both questions, they are all under construction, we don't have answers yet for you," communications manager Vina Maphosa tells snl24.com/kickoff.
However, club legend Maponyane feels the Soweto giants are entitled to compensation and also advises Amakhosi to continue to take part in the tournament despite all the obstacles in their way.
"To be honest I read that, but it is a curveball for me, no pun intended," Maponyane says.
"It is a curveball in a sense that yes, you do need your compensation for the inconvenience. But I would obviously not say they should do this, because it depends also on CAF rules on that.
"Do they have rules? Let's start there. That if a team is inconvenienced, what do they do? If it's for safety reasons, let it be, but if there are costs incurred, I'm sure you've got to have a recourse there you know. An inconvenience of some sort has to be compensated.
"Let's say for an example a country says due to Covid we don't allow foreign people coming here, you should know all those things if you are a CAF coordinator.
"Or if a country is war-torn or there is no safety that can be guaranteed, all those things should be communicated in time."
