Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns 2020/21 CAF Champions League fixture dates confirmed

In what will be the 25th edition of the African Champions League format, Chiefs will be aiming for their first-ever group stage qualification while Sundowns have now qualified for the competition for seven consecutive seasons.

Only four games separate the South African giants from entering the group stage phase with a preliminary round and first-round qualification system that will take place over two legs in the traditional home and away format.

While the 2019/20 edition has yet to be finalised with the Champions League and Confederation Cup last-four ties scheduled for the end of September due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CAF has announced the plans for next season.

The current coefficient system ranks the Absa Premiership amongst the 12 leading nations on the continent, thus along with Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, DR Congo, Zambia, Nigeria, Guinea, Angola and Sudan will have two representatives in the opening stage.

Meanwhile, Libya, who are currently embroiled in a civil war, will be excluded from the competition due to the league being inactive.

The preliminary round ties will take place between 20-29 November and the first round is scheduled between 11th and 20th of December.

With a six-round group stage, the 12th of February will see Africa's elite club competition in full swing, while the last group clash will take place on 11 April 2021.
