Hussein Al-Shahat: Al Ahly star unaware of Mamelodi Sundowns transfer talk

Al Ahly club-record signing Hussein El Shahat says he is unaware of the transfer interest from Mamelodi Sundowns.

El Shahat, 28, joined the Egyptian Premier League champions from UAE giants Al Ain after an impressive showing at the 2018 FIFA Club World Cup in which they finished as runners-up to Real Madrid.

The Red Devils forked out a staggering $5-million (R80m) for his services and despite being a regular in the starting line-up, the arrival of Pitso Mosimane has seemingly taken his game to new heights.

Reports in Egypt suggest that Sundowns have now tested the resolve of the Egyptian giants with an audacious R50m offer, which the Egypt international has distanced himself from in an interview with MBC Egypt.

"I do not know anything about any official offers from Sundowns," he said in reference to the speculation.

"I am currently on vacation with my children and I'm not thinking about anything but certainly when you have [transfer] interest, this means that you are doing well.

"There are Gulf offers that come to me through my agent, but my only focus is on the team. I closed everything [offers] out of love for Al-Ahly."

El Shahat has scored 14 goals and registered 10 assists in 58 games across all competitions since his arrival in January 2019.
