Dumisa Ngobe says Kaizer Chiefs will exit CAF Champions League early

Amakhosi will accompany 2019/20 Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns to the Champions League after finishing second last season while The Buccaneers will take part in the Confederation Cup following their third-placed finish.

Ngobe, who won the African Champions Cup with Pirates in 1995, does not believes Chiefs will enjoy a long Champions League campaign.

"One thing's for sure that I'll be honest with you, there's only two teams that will conquer these tournaments, the other one will pull out early as possible," Ngobe tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"They might pull out in the first game and say that they don't want to prepare for the entire competition. What I've seen previously, Kaizer Chiefs they don't go all out.

"Chiefs will put out somewhere, they might pull out in the first game saying 'You know gents let's not win the game let's lose.' It's how they are doing it. But if they are going all out it's going to assist the country in the way of building the national team because having those three pillars of South African football Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, Pirates...if you remember in our days players that were most dominating the national team it was Pirates, Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and players from overseas.

"Now Sundowns is dominating in Africa but we don't have more players of Sundowns participating in the national team. I remember us we were about seven or eight players from Pirates in the national team. So now three teams will be participating in Africa, but it's only two teams that will remain behind.

"I mean I don't know when is the case of Kaizer Chiefs, whether they will be allowing them to sign any players. I remember the last time they were appealing the decision taken by FIFA. So if they don't win the protest what is going to happen to them? They are going to have a weak squad, they will not be able to play in Africa and in the PSL the same time.

"Kaizer Chiefs is not a team of big squad. I mean Sundowns and Pirates, they can have 40 - 50 players. But Kaizer Chiefs you won't find 40 - 50 players in their team. I'm not saying I'm wishing them bad or what, but judging by their previous records no I don't see anything...actually they are one of the teams that are not assisting the build-up of soccer in South Africa."
