The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed plans to launch a Women's African Champions League as part of their development strategy.
African women's football has been left behind by the rest of the developing countries over the past decade with a lack of investment and development.
While South Africa made history by qualifying for their first-ever FIFA World Cup last year, the gulf in standards were apparent while no team from Africa reached the quarter-final stage.
"I urge all of you here to seize this tremendous opportunity to make a tangible contribution to the development of women's football on our continent," president Ahmed Ahmed said in November.
"Your ideas and expertise will help us to establish a strong roadmap for women's football that will give every young African girl who wants to play the opportunity to do so, regardless of her level and her country of origin."
CAF are now set to discuss the plan forward at their executive committee meeting which will take place at their official headquarters in Cairo on Tuesday.
