SAFA express their desire to host 2023 Women's World Cup to FIFA

SAFA have sent a letter to FIFA, telling the football governing body that they are keen to host the World Cup. Jordaan says they are waiting for a response  with requirements from FIFA and then they will take it from there.

“We sent a letter to FIFA and we are now waiting for the bidding requirements. In recent times FIFA have shortened their bidding window, so I am going to meet with the president Gianni Infantino in France. He invited me to come there to talk about this and we will see when they are going to bring out the bidding requirements.”

The fact that Banyana Banyana have qualified for the 2019 World Cup in France has motivated the association to bid for the one in 2023. Jordaan did not want Banyana to play their first World Cup at the one they host.

“We must inform you that we are working on the bid for the World Cup for women,” Jordaan said on Wednesday afternoon at the SAFA offices in Johannesburg, where the association announced a partnership with Turkish clothing brand D’S Damat

“After France, we want to host the Women’s World Cup. From a profile point of view of Banyana Banyana, France has come as a gift for us, to give the team the first opportunity to play in the World Cup. So when we host it will not be their first World Cup.

“When we play at home, with your support, we may just create miracles.”

As was the case with the men’s World Cup eight years ago, South Africa would be the first African country to host the Women’s World Cup if they win the rights to do so.
