Banyana started the tournament in Ghana with a bang with a 1-0 victory over defending champions Nigeria on Sunday, while tonight's opponents were thrashed 5-0 by Zambia.
Van Wyk, the continent's most capped woman with 156 international appearances, was pleased with the will shown by Banyana in registering only their second win against the Super Falcons in 11 meetings.
However, she did identify some points of concern for Desiree Ellis's outfit.
"We overturned a lot of balls. We lost possession very cheaply and it is something we need to take out of our play," Van Wyk said.
"Because for us we are good at dominating, we keep the ball on the ground and there's a lot of movement around the ball. It is something we still need to work on and obviously finishing the chances that we get. I think 'Fifi' (Refiloe Jane) got a few chances and obviously the field held the ball a little bit back. Those are areas we can improve on."
Van Wyk feels team work was key to their defeat of Nigeria courtesy of a goal from Houston Dash star Thembi Kgatlana.
"Coming to the game, we knew that it was going to be a tough battle against the defending champions and we also knew that if we put up a good fight for each other and show team work, we could get the positive results."
She added: "Obviously when Thembi came on (for Busisiwe Ndimeni in the 57th minute), she made a huge difference with her pace upfront. The defensive line was tired out by the other players and she scored a phenomenal goal. So we are really happy and it's definitely a confidence booster for the next game in this tournament."
