Beijing BG Phoenix FC looking to play Banyana Banyana star Thembi Kgatlana as a striker

Kgatlana and Linda Motlhalo have both secured moves to the Beijing based club, singing one year contracts.

The skilful Kgatlana, who parted ways with US-based side Houston Dash last month, has been in good scoring form for Banyana, so she is not likely to struggle to find the back of the net for her new side. The challenge, though, could be the language barrier.

“I’m very happy about my move. It’s a big one for me, it’s my second professional team. I am going to be based in Beijing,” the reigning African Women’s Player of the Year told SAFA media.

“I don’t think it will be a problem. For me wherever I go I just do my job. I think they signed me to be a striker and my job will be to score goals. It’s obviously going to be difficult, it’s a new enrivonment with the language barrier. For me it should not be difficult to get on the field and play. I think the difficulty would be having to communicate with the players and technical staff. But I know they have arranged a translator.”

Kgatlana says she’s known about the move since last year, but they needed to settle everything before making an announcement.

“I’ve been stalking for quite a while. I think I knew about this move late last year. [We] Just want to settle it before we could release anything and be sure about it. I’ve watched them play, they are a good team. I think my value will add to what they have. They’ve signed a couple of exeprienced players for 2019, so it’s going to be good for me to join them and play with them before the World Cup.”

Kgatlana will join her new club after participating in the Cyprus Cup with Banyana Banyana.
