Banyana, who are heading to the FIFA World Cup later this year, had to come from behind twice to secure a point in the Group A.
They went a goal down three minutes into the second half when Julliette Kemppi gave the Europeans the lead, but Leandra Smeda – who plays her football in Sweden – equalised from the penalty spot in the 69th minute after Jermaine Seoposenwe was brought down in the box.
Eight minutes later Finland were in front again, as Adelina Engman put her side ahead with a curling finish.
Not to be outdone, Banyana fought back and got the all important equaliser through the African Women’s Player of the Year Thembi Kgatlana, who signed for Chinese club Beijing BG Phoenix FC recently.
Banyana’s next game will be against North Korea on Friday. Kickoff is 18h00.
