Why Broos believes Chiefs star could solve Themba Zwane dilemma

Bafana Bafana head coach has explained why he believes the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder could be the long-term replacement for Mamelodi Sundowns' Themba Zwane.

Mdantsane was a late call-up into the Bafana Bafana squad following the withdrawal of attacker Percy Tau. The Belgian tactician has spoken openly about the challenge of replacing Zwane in the event of an injury and reveals that the search has led him to Mdantsane, among other names on a 'list'.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of a friendlies against Eswatini and Ivory Coast, Broos shed more light on the decision to call-up Mdantsane.

"I think last time I said, when we talked about the replacement of Themba Zwane, that we know that Themba is at a certain age (34). We have to look for the future," Broos explained.

"That we [need to make sure] we have someone behind him, certainly also for the Afcon. At his age, I don't think every game, every three days, you can count one hundred per cent on him.

"So, you need someone there. You need solutions. [Mdantsane] was on our list, so now, because Percy Tau [is out], we have two choices – to take another winger, or we take the opportunity to have someone who maybe in the future who can be a replacement for Themba.

"That is why he [Mdantsane] is there. Okay, I said what I said (That Chiefs players are not performing well enough for the national team), but stop now with that.

"I just choose players, not because they are from Sundowns, or because they are from Chiefs and I don't choose players just because they are from those teams I just choose players because I need them and because I think they are the best in that moment and for that position."

Bafana will host Eswatini at FNB Stadium on Friday. Kick-off is at 18:00.
