Shalulile to test familiar Bafana

Peter Shalulile has been named to lead the Brave Warriors for their friendly international against Bafana Bafana on September 9.

The two COSAFA neighbours will meet for the first time since August 2020 in what will be Bafana's preparation matches for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the AFCON finals to run from January 13 – February 11, 2024, in Ivory Coast.

Namibia are still awaiting the finalisation of qualifiers in their group which has Cameroon and Burundi.

On Monday, Collin Benjamin announced his squad to play Bafana at a venue yet to be determined.

Benjamin's enlarged squad also features local based players who will do duty in the 2024 CHAN qualifiers on September 22-24.

Of interest is the fact that Shalulile will go up against Bafana still chasing his first goal against the Hugo Broos coached team after firing blanks on two previous occasions.

Shalulile has twice played against Bafana but is still to score his first goal.

The 29-year-old is already a household name in South Africa for what he has done at Mamelodi Sundowns where he has 76 goals in only 121 games since joining at the beginning of the 2020/21 season from Highlands Park.
