Speaking ahead of their Group G 2022 World Cup qualifier away to Zimbabwe, Williams said it was a huge responsibility to lead the team.
"First of all, it's a major achievement to be part of the team," Williams said.
"I've been part of the set-up now for over eight years. I think I've gained valuable experience over the years, and I've enjoyed my time so far.
"I think it's a massive responsibility for me now to lead, not only the team, but basically I'm leading the entire country now.
"So, it's a massive responsibility, and one that I'm looking forward to, and one that I'm going to make sure that I do my best.
"Obviously, I've got respect from my players and the technical team. I'm proud to be here, and you know with me, you will get consistency, hard work and dedication.
"That's what I will bring to the table."
Williams added that he aims to lead the team towards a period of success after recent high-profile failures.
"The most important thing that we want as a team is a success," Williams added.
"We obviously are still disappointed that we're not at the Afcon, and it's still in the back of my mind because I was part of that team.
"But we need to put that aside now and focus on the World Cup qualifiers, as we want to be there."
