Tau: We understand South Africans' frustration

Percy Tau has doubled down on his stance that Bafana Bafana have what it takes to be strong contenders upcoming AFCON.

For all the criticism received, Bafana go to Ivory Coast with just defeat since June 2022 and qualified for the continental competition top of their group, edging out number-one ranked Morocco.

Speaking at Bafana's training camp in Stellenbosch on Monday, the Al Ahly attacker admitted that South African supporters are a tough crowd to please but insisted that the squad has the pedigree

"It's always difficult for us to satisfy the public, but we've always wanted to be a team that could try and compete,"

"Even the last time I went to Afcon in Egypt, we wanted to compete and try our best to go all the way, that has not changed even now.

"People have different opinions about the process we are in, because they say this based on [Bafana] missing out on the last [Afcon tournament in 2021].

"We understand that and we want to go all the way [In Ivory Coast]."

Broos' men will start their 2023 AFCON title pursuit with a Group E clash against Mali on 16 January before meeting Namibia on 21 January and wrapping up the group stage action against Tunisia on 24 January.
