OFFICIAL: Rwanda name squad for Bafana tie, PSL star incl.

Rwanda have confirmed their provisional squad to take on Bafana Bafana in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier later this month, with a certain DStv Premiership star in the mix.

With the two sides set to square off in the next international break, a face that will be familiar to PSL fans is that of TS Galaxy's Ntwali Fiacre, with the shot-stopper having been selected for Rwanda's provisional squad.

The selection also includes overseas-based stars Ange Mutsinzi of FK Jerv and Standard Liege's Hakim Sahabo.

Here is Rwanda's full squad:

Amavubi will kick off their 2026 WC qualifying campaign against Zimbabwe on Wednesday, 15 November. They are then scheduled to take on South Africa on matchday two on Tuesday, 21 November, and will be hoping to make history considering they have never qualified for a World Cup finals.

The only major competition Rwanda have previously taken part in was the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia, at which they were unable to progress beyond the group stage.

However, the side will be licking their lips at the chance qualify for the major showpiece set to take place in 2026 after CAF announced changes to the format of the qualifiers earlier this year following the global tournament's expansion from 32 to 48 teams.

"On the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers, the Executive Committee approved the format, dates of the Qualifiers. The new format has been adapted in line with FIFA's expanded FIFA World Cup format and will involve all the 54 Member Associations of CAF who will be divided into nine (9) Groups," CAF said.

"Winners of each Group will automatically qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The four best runners-up (from the Groups) will play in a CAF Play-Off tournament. The winner (CAF Play-Off tournament) will play in the FIFA Play-off Tournament."
